Insane---"in a state of mind which prevents normal perception, behavior, or social interaction; seriously mentally ill."
That's a bit too strong a word to so characterize those with OCD or a mixture of the two. However, I will accept psychopathy---"mental illness or disorder."
Not everyone who has "OCD" obsessive compulsive disorder has problems with both obsessions and compulsions. It frequently is a 95% / 5% split, one to the other.
When one is taking 10 showers a day, I would suspect it would be hard for the person going through so many towels a day to not be aware of the inconvenience he is causing himself or herself.
And as far as obsession is concerned, when one makes oneself approach every project with a capital P and "perfection," it's not too difficult to notice that you never actually have any free time in a day.
OCD is chronic, which means that it is an illness that you will potentially be dealing with (on some level) for the rest of your life. There is no cure, unfortunately, but many people with OCD are able to get substantial control over their symptoms with proper treatment.
Maybe "Yes."
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. ... Some people with OCD can be completely cured after treatment. Others may still have OCD, but they can enjoy significant relief from their symptoms. Treatments typically employ both medication and lifestyle changes including behavior modification therapy
Thank you for your reply tom. In other words maybe yes, maybe no. Let me ask you directly. Can Dondonjohn be cured of his compulsions? The biggie is lying. There are many others too.
Well, unless you recognize that you have a particular compulsion---and actually want to stop the action that it produces (lying)---then the individual has no motivation to try to eliminate---or even minimize that compulsion.
So, in the absence of his wanting to cure his compulsion to lie, we cannot cure him.
