All day long. It's not "cheating" since I don't get to take breaks or rest periods, without work interruptions ... and I'm doing it between projects, or while waiting for reports to run.
They tend not to care, as long as the work gets done in a timely manner. We have people who spend all shift on Facebook or Ebay or Amazon or playing those "farm" games.
Example: OB has to have at least 2 nurses on staff, at all times. Even when they don't have any patients. Who knows when a women is going to come in for an unscheduled delivery?
I get it now. It's not that they have a pile of work to get done. They wait for their work to walk in the door. In the meantime they try to pass the time some way. Thanks for the example.It always helps! :)
That sounds ideal to me R. How is public transportation in your country generally? It's not too hot here but then not much is any longer. Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday! :)

we're severly understaffed due to labor cuts so i dont take breaks. they're cheating me. i hate my employer. i cant wait to quit so I can start my smear campaign
Assuming any part of this is serious I shall address the one most urgent in my opinion. I'm sorry you hate your employer. Do you like the work you do at least? I hope you find a place you will look forward to going to each day. As for your last sentence I have no idea what that means and don't need to know since any time I see the word "smear" I lose interest. Thank you for your reply tw and Happy Thursday.
i really like my job actually and the work I do and the people i work with. i just hate the selfish greedy DISGUSTING corporation i work for. i want people to know how crappy they treat their employees just not at the risk of losing my job ya know
I work for myself. So as long as I get done what I need to each day....I do not feel cheated.
Now, if I were working for someone else, I would only check in on breaks and lunch. Because as an employee you are being paid for your time and that time should be spent do your job.
I believe they are (not including lunches or breaks). I believe in an honest days work for an honest days pay. Being on AM, Facebook, Twitter, or whatever when you're supposed to be working is cheating your employe. When I had downtime at work I went and found things to do (cleaning, facing, helping coworkers, etc.). They were paying me to work, not loaf around. I wonder how many people would still play on their phones/computers at work if their employer started subtracting that time from their paycheck?
There is NO way I could or would do this at my job. There is no time. No one would care what I do between clients as long as I do the job, but there is NO time between clients for me. I don't take breaks. I am here to work and make money and Answer Mug is not my priority or anything I can do to kill time in between clients.
