Johnny Cash fans know about a boy named Sue. Shirley Povich was a guy reporter and dad of Maury Povich of whom you may have heard. Rosy Grier knit to relax. What dames carry male names whom you personally know? Are they masculine?
Your question reminds me of a story on NPR(?) the other day. Seems someone is endorsing a change, so ships are no longer referred to as female. For some reason, this has some people all up in arms ... on both sides of the debate.
Personally, I don't see the big deal. I mean, how can you call a ship "she" when it has a male name? LOL
Good question Walt and I don't have a clue. How ca you genderize an inanimate object? I never understood that? Weird. I'm gonna ask.Thank you for your reply and the info and Happy Saturday! :)
Sometimes names can be handicaps. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter APPLE. "Rotten to the core" or "seedy" come to mind. Frank Zappa named his daughter MOON UNIT. Saddling kids with oddball names does them no favor in my opinion. Thank you for your reply sb and Happy Saturday to thee! :)
I have a family member named Raven and another named River. Any guesses on their genders?
I don't think parents care much about names reflecting gender. They go for atypical names. Besides, who knows what gender the kid will want to be when he gets older. There are so many to choose from nowadays.
River Phoenix was a young male actor who died of a drug overdose years ago. He had a brother named Leaf I belief. I think of raven-haired beauties in swashbuckling novels so I'm guessing your Raven is a guy. Thank you for your reply shuhak. Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter APPLE. Can you just see folks saying she is rotten to the core? Then there was Frank Zappa whose daughter was named Moon Unit. Weird. Happy Saturday! :)
I think there is something very CLASSIC and ELEGANT about such names Shuhak. Beautiful too. But there are also some very weird odd bizarre unfortunate names parents saddle their children with just to be different. What that does to a child who is taunted mercilessly I don't know but it cannot be good. I don't why parents aren't more kind to their children and foresee what a name could do to them. SIGH. Thank you for your reply! :)
