A "scab" is someone who crosses a picket/strike line to work.

  • They aren't unionized.  Scab is someone who crosses union lines or takes work away from union labor by undercutting them.

ANYONE who crosses a picket line is called a "scab".  (except management.  they are called much worse.)
Trust me.  I have seen dozens of strikes and picket lines, growing up in a mill town.

You have it backwards.  The persons who cross the picket line are called scabs.

  • I know that.  Yet Uber and Lucy drivers are essentially scab and rat taxi drivers.  So they are already scabs and rats.  Taxi drivers and cabbie unions been saying the companies are abusing workers and now that the drivers have encroached on unionized and professional cabbies they want the same things their unions fought for. In a nutshell anyway.

Taxi drivers are not on strike.  Therefore, there's no picket line to cross.  Therefore, Uber and Lyft drivers are not scabs.

  • "In the annals of labor history, few characters are more reviled than the so-called “scab”—the worker who refuses to join a union, or worse, whether or not a member, crosses a picket line during a strike. "

Trade workers who work outside the union and undercut it are also called scabs.

  • I believe you are from NYC? I’ve seen you mention it before, they did their worst « scabbing » there. Back in early 2017 when Trump made his executive order banning migrants and refugees from several counties, leaving many people stranded at airports, the New York Workers Taxi Aliénce Union refused to work and pick up passengers in a show of support to the refugees and migrants. Uber drivers  lowered their prices during this period to take advantage of the union strike. That is  «scabbing ».
