I might go barefooted around the house, but elsewhere it's shoes. Ladies and small children can get by with sandals, but not men. The Roman Empire is over and Charlton Heston is dead.
Of course one's lifestyle dictates one's mode of dress/overdressed/underdresssed as the case may be. If you are very high society then it's designer labels all the way. Gotta impress. If you are less inclined to dress for others and prefer a casual lifestyle well what's wrong with that? My Jim wears tennis shoes when he plays tennis. Golf shoes when plays golf. Dress shoes when we go out which is very rare because we don't favor mobs. AND SANDALS when he feels like it which is much of the time because they are more comfortable. Now it seems you have a problem with that. You do not believe in sovereignty and the right to dress as we choose without being subject to the criticism of strangers who know NOTHING about whom we are, how we live, what we like? Odd that. Did you notice that I asked WHAT YOU PREFER not what you deem appropriate for others? But you said what you think and I said what I think and so we are even. Thank you for your reply SC and Happy Friday to thee and thine barefooted or shod. It matters not one whit to me.

I have always had dogs. For some reason, my dogs have always loved to dance on my toes when I sitting down and petting them. I find (leather) shoes to be my only defense against that pain.

I hate wearing shoes. Unfortunately, I have extremely sensitive feet. So, around the house I either wear socks or flip-flops, but when I go outside I wear cheapo shoes (unless I'm doing something brief, like taking out the garbage, then I wear flip-flops).
