It is necessary in communication. There aren't many letters that are also words, therefore this one will stick out as a letter often used. I don't think (see, I used it there, and again!) that it signifies a "favourite letter".
Perhaps "A" is some peoples' favourite, I also see that used a lot (see, there!)
