Doesn't going to war ALWAYS IMPROVE THE ECONOMY? The sb prez hasta do something to offset his China tariff anchors. RIGHT?

So well then what would YOU do if you were him? What war would you start somewhere for which you could take all the credit and then take all the credit for soaring economy because of it? So young men die. So what? Chances are none of them are his people. All his people(obscenely wealthy) just like him lied  their way out of serving their country. Poor people don't have that opportunity. Case closed.

I would call the person I confide in and trust the most in the world, my advisor.

Perhaps that's what is going on. Perhaps the sb prez is simply following orders from above. Thank you for your repy and the graphic and Happy Wednesday.

I don't know if war really affects the economy much, these days.

I mean, in the past, there was all the "ramp up" in manufacturing to boost the economy.
We had to switch from an agricultural-base to industrial-base economy ... until after WW2.

After WW2, we remained on a "war footing" and industrial economy.
It takes so long to build ships/planes/etc ... that manufacturers keep producing them, rather than wait for the "last minute".

About the only things we "ramp up" production on, these days, is ammunition.

So we have ton of planes and ships on hand which have no use at all until and unless we go to war? Really Walt? How many trillions of dollars have we pi**ed away on war products which were just sitting there. All dressed up for the dance and no where to go? No wonder we are drowning in debt. No wonder we gotta go to war to make use of all our toys. Think the draft will ever return? I'm gonna ask. Thank you for your reply and Happy Wednesday.

Yep ... it makes it a lot easier to justify the cost of new equipment, when you can show the old equipment is outdated.
It's one thing to say we need new fighter planes because the "enemy" has better planes in technical terms.
It's another to show the two planes being used, and their capabilities.

You know in times past I have read stories about Congress approving spending for military use to buy aircraft the military says it neither needs nor wants.  That did not stop Congress from doing it anyway. Was it lobbyists for those companies (Boeing et al) who were the culprits? Why shove things down the throats of our military they had no faith in or use for? Is that how the buildup happened? I hadn't thought that just sitting there doing nothing they'd become obsolete or nearly so.  Boy what a racket! Thank you for your helpful and informative reply Walt. I appreciate it! Now what? Sheesh! :(

Remember the M247 anti-aircraft gun?  (aka "Sgt York")
It looked good on paper - but never lived up to expectations, and was obsolete after only a few dozen were produced.

I think there's a tendency, after spending a few billions on R&D, for government to say: "Well, let's see if we can work out the kinks after production".

IMO, it's not just the government.
I think that's why Microsoft turns out such buggy software, and then has to have so many patches.
