Do you enjoy your job more when you get positive feedback or is simply doing it joy enough for you? Why?

I rarely got any positive feedback from my job (not even a lousy thank you).  I had the model store and yet they still found things that weren't "perfect".  In fact, the job of every bigwig that came in from corporate was to find something wrong somewhere - no matter how insignificant. (they made sure to leave a long to do list).

Personally, I hated it.  As a manager I knew that positive feedback resulted in better workers.  Better workers resulted in more productivity.  More productivity meant more sales.  I guess these bigwigs missed that class back in managers school.  Constantly being told you suck is very demoralizing.  (Any wonder I ended up with a stress-related injury?)

I wouldn't be a manager if you paid me a bazillion bucks Shuhak. I turned down promotions that involved managing people. Did it once and hated it so I never did it again. I am not cut out to be a referee between warring childish selfish adults. Not me. I was lucky in that I always loved the work. In fact I was surprised at times for being rewarded/singled out for doing a good job. I didn't do a good job to be noticed. I did the best I could wherever I worked because it suited me and pleased ME. Once in awhile I was not fond of a co-worker or two but I'd just bury myself deeper in my work. I only ever had one boss who was an idiot with an MBA from Harvard ALLEGEDLY. Nincompoop doesn't begin to describe him. I've had great bosses and pretty good ones over the years. One lemon isn't bad all things considered. Maybe these reviewers who chastised you had quotas they had to meet. You know like a traffic cop has quotas for how many tickets he should write? I don't know that for a fact but I suspect it. Rather than being complimentary for what is working well and helpful in areas that could use improving they lower the boom and attack. That would stress me out too! Thank you for your reply. So are you still suffering from stress...like a PTSD? This post was edited by RosieG at May 22, 2019 9:52 AM MDT
