Ups and downs highs and lows. That's how life goes unless you are OBSCENELY rich. ARE YOU?

I think that people who are obscenely rich have their highs and lows, too.  Look at how many rich people get divorced and they still get sick like everyone else.  I think the only thing wealth can't buy is poverty.

Am I obscenely rich?  That depends on who I compare myself to...

I have a pantry full of food.  There are millions of people in the world who have no food to eat whatsoever.  To them I'm obscenely rich.
I live in a house with a heater in case it gets cold.  There are millions of people in the world who live on the streets, in caves, or under leanto's  -year round.  To them I'm obscenely rich.
I sleep in a bed at night.  There Are millions of people in the world who  sleep on the bare ground (with no covers).  To them I'm obscenely rich.
I'm very frugal when it comes to money, yet I spend more at the grocery store each month than many people will ever have in their entire lifetime.  To them I'm obscenely rich.
Yet compared to many in this country, I'm dirt poor.

We all have ups and downs.  The rich may not show theirs or they may have different ones than those without wealth do, but they still have ups and downs.  And to them those ups and downs are just as troubling anyone else's.

Have you ever purchased something and not looked at the price first to see if you could afford it? I haven't. That to me is being obscenely rich. I have everything you have stated above. I have all the necessities I need to sustain life. I also have a few of the luxuries that are not required to sustain life.  Cable TV. An old desk-top computer with keyboard to access the internet. I can afford to buy the food we like to eat. We never go hungry in this house nor does anyone who visits us.  We have peace of mind and sleep well at night. We live in a safe neighborhood. I have never in my life lived anywhere and heard a gun shot. I have never in my life been physically attacked/beaten/harmed. I have never to my knowledge been stalked by a crazy person who wants to kill me. Blessings all but I do not think that makes me obscenely wealthy Shuhak. It just makes me very lucky. Thank you for your thoughtful reply. This post was edited by RosieG at May 31, 2019 2:35 AM MDT

Please define how much we need to have to be, according to your phrase, "obscenely rich"?   I would say we are not, but we are well enough off we could both quit working and likely not have any money worries for the rest of our lives.  Long as we don't start spending too much.

But implied is that wealth protects us from life's ups and downs - which I don't think is true.  Because there are many people as well off as we are or who have much more who are not so happy with their lot in life.  Plus there are many other sources of woe than just lack of finances.  Is foolish to think that money solves everything.  That is a very simplistic point of view.  I was almost as happy as I am now when I had very little and certainly I did not have the responsibilities I must now shoulder.
