What seems peculiar to me is that we've had presidents in the past that were failures at almost everything the put a hand to, yet the presidency was what they succeeded at. Then there were the men, with what would appear to be ideal resumes for the job, who were abject failures as president. John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Martin Van Buren, James Buchanan and William Howard Taft come to mind in that category.
