Do you ever avoid seeing the highly praised movies and see the ones the critics hated? Just because you're curious? How much does other people's opinions influence your actions? Why?
I don't read what the critics have to say if I think I will read it. I just watched a movie that the critics absolutely hated. I liked it and Adrien Brody was, as always, wonderful. Salma Hayek fell short. I'm glad I didn't read the critics first.

I have never read reviews on either books or movies.
I tend to go in the opposite direction to the critics, Rosie. If the critics pan it, I'll usually want to see it, and if they praise it I usually avoid it. Reason? 99% of the critics have absolutely no taste.
((hugs)) Pardon the impertinence of the hug NP. I know we don't know each other but that is exactly what my Jim and I do. We have so often really liked a movie that was panned and disliked one that got rave reviews that we just wing it. If it sounds as if we might like it we watch. It it doesn't we don't! Glad others do that too! I mean what does a critic do

but give an opinion? Who says his/her opinion is any better than ours! I'm 78 by the way so the hug was harmless! Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday! :)
About 90% of my video/DVD collection consists of movies that had mediocre-to-bad reviews. Like I said before, most critics have monstrous taste. Lol:)
I tend to focus on certain actresses, so if a movie I haven't previously seen has an actress I like in it, I'll want to see it, and 9 times out of 10 I'll like it. Only very rarely do the best actresses star in bad movies. Happy Friday to you too, Rosie!:)

Very true. You can take that to the bank.
Even if the movie is mediocre the fine actor/actress shines and it is always worth experiencing the performance! Thank you NP! :)
