Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» There is joy to be gained when being rewarded for what you do well. There is also joy to be had in JUST DOING. Which joy is greater? Why?
If you perform for the accolades, you'll soon find the parade passing you by when a new "star" hits the scene. That doesn't make someone an "also ran". The shear joy of being there and taking it all in with the understanding that you'll have good days and not so good days to reflect on, is the real lasting motivation. Often, we don't realize that because of experience in your craft, there is respect there for what you bring to the table. The result: You're being watched. My reference is to stagecraft, but these little truths apply to many other efforts out there.
You mean acting? "Stagecraft". Set design. Costuming? Hair. Makeup? Acting is not the only craft but is it that to which you refer? So are you an actor then and the "awards"? An Oscar or an Emmy or a Tony? They surely would not be gathering dust nor would you ever consider discarding them would you? I'm sure you know that Rita Moreno won top awards on TV, in film and on stage. There may be others as talented as she is performing in multi-mediums. See all ya had to do was use the word "stagecraft" and I'm off and running. Thank you for your reply SC. As for awards which would make you very proud? A Pulitzer, Nobel or being given a $ million dollar grant for GENIUS would thrill me foreverly. You?

As much as I could use the money,(of course I'd have to pass the cash to a genius if I met one) a Pulitzer would be nice. I've tried writing without much success. Sometimes the thing that you want the most eludes you. I'd consider getting published as a major breakthrough, even without any acclaim for it.
