On November 29, 1947, the UN voted to recommend the partision of Palestine into a Jewish and an Arab state. Then what happened?

The vote was 33 to 13, with 10 abstentions.
France, the Soviet Union, and the US were for it.

Latin America: 13 in favor, 1 against, 6 abstentions.

Cuba joined India, Pakistan, Turkey, Greece, and Afghanistan as the nations to oppose partision.

Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Yemen opposed the resolution.

These countries abstained: Great Britain, China, Argentina, Zchile, Colombia, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Honduaras, Mexico, sand Yugoslavia.

So how did we end up where we are today?

The Arabs did not agree to the resolution.

And as soon as the General Assembly adopted it a civil war broke out and the plan was never enacted. Irsael won.

Then there was another war with different Arab states banning together to attack Israel. Israel also won that war.

Then there was the 6 day war in which Israel also won.

The UN has a vastly inflated opinion of its importance. Here is a fascinating analysis of history:

The United States and Britain in Bible Prophecy | United Church of God

You may not entirely agree with it, but it is entirely fascinating.

Bottom line: If the UN doesn't like the way things are, they are free to take it to a higher court!

The Jewish Agency for Palestine accepted the resolution. The Arabs rejected it.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Partition_Plan_for_Palestine

In 1948 forces from Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Iraq invaded Palestine and the newly independent Israel, believing their far superior numbers would enable them to push the Jews into the sea. Their radio broadcasts urged Arabs to clear the decks for invasion so they could get their pickings of the spoils when the Jews were wiped out. Those who fled became refugees. Those who stayed got all the rights of Israeli citizens.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1948_Arab%E2%80%93Israeli_War

The Jews were battle-hardened soldiers who had served various allied nations in World War II. They had access to superior equipment and created a better command structure. The Arabs, when they came under fire for the first time, ran and fled. When the 1948 war was over, Israel retained all it was given in the 1947 partition plan, as well as 60 percent of the Arab lands.

In the ensuing wars, the Israelis were similarly victorious. As Golda Meir once said, "In all our wars we have had a secret weapon. It is called 'no alternative'." and "The Syrians can run back to Syria. The Egyptians can run back to Egypt. We have nowhere to run except into the sea, and before we do that we may as well fight."

Egypt carried most of the burden for making war on Israel. The Yom Kippur War of 1973 was the last war they tried to fight. When it was over, Egypt was broke and they had kicked out their Soviet benefactors. The Camp David accords were signed by Egypt's Anwar Sadat and Israel's Menachem Begin in September 1978. Those Arabs who remained steadfastly opposed to the Jewish State have since resorted to scattered acts of terrorism.

  • There's quite a bit of holes on your summary there. But those you mention are nice.

I'm not interested in writing a book. Most don't read really long posts anyway.
