Peaches and nectarines and plums and pears and berries and melons are at their best then I think. Many are available year-round but THE VERY BEST are available in summer. Of course that's also when VACATIONS occur mostly. What else is BEST in summer?

Gardening!  Planting and tending flowers and veggies.

I also love the blackberries that grow wild around here (late july/early august).  Nothing compares to the taste of a slightly squishy, large dark-black blackberry that's been warmed by the afternoon sun (they have a unique smell too).

I'm not too fond of the wildfires and super-dry conditions. or teh 100+ degree days summer brings.

We don't like hot a lot either Shuhak. If money were no object we'd be living at the beach...both Scorpios you see so we LOVE water...oceanwater specifically. I used to have a garden decades ago. I loved weeding so much. I grew cukes and green onions and strawberries and the infamously easy-to-grow zuccini and carrots and radishes. Tried my hand at winter vegetables and failed. Never could grow tomatoes either. Made the mistake of planting BAMBOO for its decorative appeal! It took over everything so we had to yank it out. Some plants are like people. Once you let them in the garden they go on  rampage and devour everything in the way! Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday! :)

    Yes, bamboo is EXTREMELY invasive!

most people think gardening is a no brainer.  However, it actually takes a knack.

    I've got a brown-thumb.
Any plant I try to grow ... dies.

I've toyed with the idea of hiring my talent out.
Got a bunch of weeds, and don't want to use chemicals?
I would come by and "garden" them; ensuring that they suffer a horrible, wilting death.
    lol

Must be nice.   I can't kill weeds - not even with poison!  They just thrive.

Our produce is not good.  Ever.  It is hard to shop for great produce here.  I have to drive a LONG way into the city to find a Natural Grocers to even get fresh, live, organic produce.  The Farmer's Markets have totally tasteless products.  It's sad.

If you cannot taste the food, obviously there is nothing in the food to nurture the body.

It is miserably hot here in the summer and the summer burns away any living plants.  So, I really just put up with summer and wait for the rest of the year.  This is the desert and it feels just like the desert.

That's a definite hardship for sure. I have found Farmer's Markets to be generally disappointing. The two best ones we ever visited? One near the University of Hawaii on Oahu when we were in Hawaii visiting my son! That was MAGNFICIENT! The next best one was in Santa Monica. It was quite wonderful too. But locally? The individual stands are mostly not food-related at all. More like a swap meet which is not my cuppa tea. The few stands that feature veggies are high-priced and the produce looks like leftovers from somewhere else. Definitely not conducive to buying. Why that is I do not know. Thank you for your reply Sharon! :)
