I expect those who are closed off or locked up are that way out of fear. They do not want to be exposed for whom they are for fear others will find them unacceptable or target them. So they remain aloof closed off mysterious. Forever or just for "awhile"?

You can chat with some and learn about them quickly. Others you can chat with for years and know nothing about their families, where they live, what they do. They are disembodied opinions or sometimes repositories of information but you never get to KNOW THEM. A glimpse now and then is all you get.
