Pols make a zillion promises when they are candidates just so you will elect them to office. How would you react if one of them actually kept every promise he/she made? Drop dead of shock?

We have a representative form of government. Politicians don't "make promises", they "float trial balloons". After the election, reality sets in and they have to represent reality. That may or may not coincide with some of those trial balloons.
