Why do artists always depict God as an old dude with gray hair and a long beard?

1. How do they know?
2. If he were omnipotent, why wouldn't he keep himself looking young?

    Revelation 1:14--“His HEAD and His HAIRS were WHITE like wool, as WHITE as snow; and His eyes were as a flame of fire;”

    This is a description of Jesus...who is God's Son. So logically if Jesus hair and beard will be white then His Father's is certainly white as well.
