I didn't know that moving to US from another country required you to give up your identity and assume/absorb/embrace the identity of An American Citizen. Why not close all ethnic restaurants?

According to some people If you are truly an American Citizen you speak only English and eat only food native to America. No more Mexican Food or Japanese Food or Chinese Food, or Italian Food or French food. No more speaking any foreign language. That is not allowed. That is in the past life which no longer exists. Now it's hot dogs and burgers for everyone as well as American patois/slang. Geez  doesn't that sound like heaven?  :(

When you immigrate to any country not just the USA you are expected to embrace and become a fully assimilated citizen of that country. That does not mean you must forget your old customs and foods, you may still speak your native language but should learn the language of your new country but you cannot expect your new country to change into your old country. If you expect that why move to start with.

What immigrants expect their new country to change into their old country? Can you give me any specifics m2c? Your view is very puzzling to me. I have never seen that done anywhere by any ethnic group. If you have can you give me the details? You make it sound as if it is a common thing. If it is  where is it and who does it? Thank you for your reply.

No one immigrating here has to abandon their language, food, religion or customs that do not break the law or impose upon others.  It is hardly unreasonable to expect immigrants to learn the language.

The US does not require anyone to be assimilated completely. Immigrants who come to the US are helped in ways to survive. Classes in English are offered. They help them with housing, transportation, and have centers where they can be assisted to adjust in whatever other needs they have.

After that, they are on their own.

The immigration system has nothing to do with restaurants. We have free enterprise in the US, so you can create your own business.
