It's a variation of the Gadsden flag designed in the year 1775 by Christopher Gadsden. It should be recalled that this was the pivotal year in which the American Revolution began. The original Gadsden flag featured a yellow field with the serpent and motto: Don't Tread on Me. It was an early ensign used by the fledgling US Navy in its infancy. A daring statement to the biggest and finest navy on earth, Great Britain's fleet. In recent years misinformed persons have tried to infer some sort of racist symbolism to this banner, which was one of many used during the years of the Revolution. Modern ignorance would be almost laughable if it wasn't for the fact that this type of misrepresentation is a serious revision of history.
In recent years, misguided patriots have been fling this flag above the US flag with no knowledge of the history of the original Gadsen flag. Modern ignorance is laughable as most have no idea why they fly that flag oither than it "looks cool".
A serious revision of history is to say the Civil war was solely about states rights but to neglect to mention that it was about states rights to own slaves and that that the confederate flag is a source of "southern pride" when in reality it is a representation of treason of the highest magnitude.
