Eisenhower and Obama. Both were good people as well as good Presidents - it's an unusual combination.

I know we've spoken of our shared like for Ike R on other threads. Don't know if we ever talked about Obama. I agree with you but what is your opinion of Harry Truman, "the buck stops here" guy? He seemed down-to-earth and substantial to me. Honest. He did get hugely angry once when someone made a crack about his daughter Margaret. Her voice I think. He did what any loving dad would do. He was mad as he** and defended her. I liked that a lot. He wasn't eloquent or elegant. Of course I was quite young. I felt safe with him though. Thank you for your reply and Happy Wednesday!   :)

Hiroshima. Nagasaki. Both were totally unnecessary, the USSR was intending to invade Japan from the west on August 15 - so Truman destroyed 2 cities simply to make the Japanese say "uncle" before the Soviets got there.

IT WASN'T NECESSARY? IT NEVER NEEDED TO HAPPEN? RUSSIA WAS GONNA SAVE THE DAY? The same Russia that chump is in bed with today or a different Russia? One that was trustworthy and dependable? I shall have to ponder that.  Wrap my head around that kinda Russia.Thank you for your reply R! :) This post was edited by RosieG at July 31, 2019 12:43 PM MDT

Of course Stalin was neither trustworthy nor dependable - but Truman reneged on the deal that FDR struck with Joe and Winston Churchill at Pottsdam, purely for one-upmanship. And he remains the only leader of any nation anywhere in history to have nuked a city.
