I think it's an age dependent shift: the older you get the less materialism matters.
Thankfully, though, Millennials seem to be more amenable to minimalism.
Do you think? What about all the gadgets they have now? I am not sure I have observed that same, that millennials are more amenable to minimalism.
I agree with your first point, however I do get moments of "I just want nice stuff!" They are usually pretty short lived though, thankfully. I think that is more due to my appreciation of art, aesthetics, etc. But I have learnt more over the years to admire "stuff" without necessarily wanting to own it.
