Rut Thinking. Others have already made the ruts. Do you just follow them or make your own for others to follow?

I follow what seems worth following when I think it's the best path.  When I don't think that, I have no trouble going off on my own path. This post was edited by SpunkySenior at August 12, 2019 6:35 AM MDT

I think I'm a born loner L. Even as a young kid I'd kinda drift away on my own to be alone. If the path I traveled happened to include others I enjoyed them. But I never chose a path to follow due to other people. Especially the very well-traveled ones. I figger whatever  the majority likes I probably won't. Of course I have no way of proving that. It's just that well take movies for example. Some of the ones the public adored I thought were pure crap. The movie "The Bridges of Madison County" with Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwide I HATED. It was about a brief love affair between a passing stranger and a woman left at home alone because her very sweet husband and kids were off on some adventure. The reviews were disgusting to me. If her husband had been abusive or vile or evil I would not have felt such outrage. But he was portrayed as a very kind and loving man and cheating on someone like that does not sit well with me. At the end she had a choice to make. To go away with her short-term lover or to stay with her husband. She chose to stay with her family and her husband surely got shortchanged the rest of his life. I think there is nothing more romantic than loyalty, kindness, honesty, caring and staying true and faithful. Nothing. To see a cheap tawdry affair be romanticized just made me angry. Oy vey! Sheesh. Thank you for your reply L! :)

I'm less of a joiner and more of a loner, too.  I had a couple of close friends when I was young and as an adult, I have kept up with one friend from childhood.  i didn't see Bridges because I read the book and I make it a point not to see the movie of a book I've read because I'm always disappointed.  Central Casting never sees the characters as I see them in the book.  The movie I thought was really awful was The Bonfire of the Vanities.  His other movie, Joe vs. The Volcano was similarly awful and I may have been the only person not to like Goodfellas.
