  • N/A. Both are fictional characters.

Ayn Rand -- I would say "yes" because I find the distinctions among Five-Time Losers...er, Objectivists-Libertarians are not meaningful. One faction calls itself Beagles, another calls itself Great Danes, yet another calls itself Collies. Fundamentally, they are all dogs.

Gordon Gecko -- Was a fictional character who traded in financial markets which, in an Objectivist-Libertarian society, would NOT EXIST, because the concepts of "public corporations" and "limited liability" would not be implemented. Unless one makes the claim that limiting government power in order to free up individual/corporate ability to defraud others is part of the Objectivist/Llibertarian platform (which I don't think is strictly true, even if the real-world application of O-L principles would have that effect), it is misleading to classify the fictional Mr. Gecko as an Objectivist-Libertarian.

No, Ayn Rand was a real person.

The person many Five-Time Losers...er, Objectivists/Libertarians BELIEVE Rand was is a bit of a fictional construct, but that's true of many public figures (e.g. compare who people BELIEVE Ronald Reagan was versus his actual history/record).

Mahalo for your reply OS and Happy Friday. Yes. I know which was real and which was not. I think Michael Douglas won the Academy Award for his portrayal though perhaps he was just nominated. :)
