Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Can you sell your soul to the Devil without knowing it? Do both sides of an agreement have to understand it for it to be valid?
Since there is no example of what you mean, I am assuming that you are talking about doing something heinous for some type of profit. If you are doing something that is against God, you must KNOW you are acting in a sinful manner. PERIOD. How can you be sinning if you have no clue that you are?
However, if you are doing things that you refuse to acknowledge, God is smarter than you are. He knows. You can fool some of the people, you can try to fool yourself, but you cannot hide your true intent from God.
Yes. According to many of the stories I know about somebody selling their soul to the Devil ... they were unaware of the contract terms, and didn't know they were selling their eternal soul.
(of course, I wonder about the stories where the person makes the deal after they are married, and their "winning" defense is that their spouse owns their soul. How? Marriage is "until death" - so has no claim to the eternal soul.)
Nope. All it requires is that both sides sign the contract, without duress, for it to be valid. That's why you should always read a contract before signing ... and get a lawyer to read it, if you don't understand EVERY part of it. In fact, even if you think you DO understand it ... you should get a lawyer to look it over. Because words have different meanings in legal contracts.
I've never heard that before now Walt. That your spouse "owns" your soul? I sure as he** wouldn't marry if that were the case. I don't want anyone's soul nor does anyone get access to mine. Period. But I will take your word for it since I don't know lotsa things you know. So all it takes is a signature and you are on the hook even though you may have no clue what you agreed to. Okay. Here's my next question. How do you know you understand what you've read? Thank you for your reply! :)
