My in-laws own a ranch in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. Quite a beautiful place. Tranquil and quiet.
We were coming here for the Labor Day weekend anyway, so now we have another reason to partake of their hospitality. We fled here back when Irma and Maria pounded S Florida.
If while hiking there, you come upon a stretch of barbed wire fence with a number of brown and tan alpacas behind it, wave to the camera. We’ll be out in a minute. Lol.
Be forewarned, my in-laws are fervent gun owners, as one is in Tennesssee.

I can't imagine having to go through hurricanes like that. My friend has been through a couple and at one point, she and her family had drive up to Georgia to get away from it. In my lifetime, the only one we had here in NYC was Hurricane Sandy. Fortunately, living in an apartment building on the 3rd floor meant there was almost no damage and no need to evacuate. I do remember taping my windows just in case.
We've been watching this thing for days and finally yesterday it changed course and we are no longer in the cone. I'm full of concern for those who end up in the path when it hits land. Lock down your home and find a safe place. I am prepared and have been for two months. All I needed was ice and I bought enough to fill up a small chest freezer. There are already two more "disturbances" out in the Atlantic that they are watching. I think we'll see a couple more hurricanes before December.
I'm about as prepared as I'm going to be, at this point. My area of Florida was considered an impact zone, but maybe not so much now. I did learn long ago, that what a hurricane actually ends up doing is about impossible to know.
