I had a teaching collegue, Muhammed, originally from Egypt. He used to tell his students he was the only African-American in the school.

Do you think that is racist?

I don't know about that, but I bet he was the only MUSLIM in the school too.

I bet he was not a practicing Catholic, let's say that.

    Am I racist?

We had other Muslims, one other teacher and a few students. Good point, some folks use other's religion or country to categorize their race. "He's an Arab." Another question to ask. You can have it if you wish.

No.  No, thanks.  He's an Arab was answered quite remarkably well by John McCain.  Remember?

It is a jerk statement.  Not a racist statement.

How does HE know?  Maybe he is a black profiler.

How does he know where those kids were born?  Does he know that any of them were not born in Africa?  Does he know who is even LEGAL to be here?  NO.  He doesn't.  Unless he is a NARC for the government. This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at September 1, 2019 3:59 PM MDT

I am betting if there was another person student/staff etc the school they would have let him know he was not the only one from Africa. Not sure what it has to do with legally here.

True, the first part.  I meant because they would NOT disclose that fact that they were illegal and not mention they were not born here.

I figure he was assuming all the people were Americans. So leaves are they from Africa. And if they were not American then they certainly were not African Americans in the sense he was using the term.

Racist, no. Pedantic, very. Quite likely the only staff member actually from Africa rather than of African descent.
