The chump CONGRATULATED Poland on the anniversary of the Nazi invasion that they were commemorating/mourning. WHY?

What kind of idiot dimwhit CONGRATULATES a country on the anniversary of its being INVADED BY THE NAZIS? Anyone?

This is YOUR self-described EXTREMELY STABLE GENIUS at his best. Shees. What a stoopid dumb he is.

Again not what he said at all:

"I do have a great message for Poland," Trump responded. "And we have Mike Pence, our vice president, is just about landing right now. And he is representing me."

"I look forward to being there soon. But I just want to congratulate Poland," he continued. "It's a great country with great people. We also have many Polish people in our country; it could be 8 million. We love our Polish friends. And I will be there soon."

Rosie: Trump"CONGRATULATED Poland on the anniversary of the Nazi invasion."

You then replied that Trump didn't say that "at all."  You say instead that Trump said "I just want to congratulate Poland."

So are you suggesting that everything else he said in what you quoted negates the fact that he did actually congratulate Poland.

Ask Trump about something he wants to avoid discussing and he congratulates them irrespective of what they are doing or experiencing, and then proceeds to pronounce them to be be great people, and tells them he's looking forward to being with them in the future. He congratulated Poland on being a "great country..." Not for being invaded by Nazis....big difference. Bigly. Context matters.

"But I just want to congratulate Poland,"  How is that NOT congratulating Poland?  They were there to commemorate the Nazi invasion of Poland.  Not an occasion on which to be congratulated.

People are trying to make it sound like he congratulated them because they were invaded.  That is not what he did.

So a person cannot congratulate someone or give them a compliment if they are in mourning/remembering a bad situation? Whose rule is that?

PLEAASE!  When you find out someone has passed away, do you call their family and congratulate them?  Is there no depth to which you will not sink to excuse this moron of a president? This post was edited by SpunkySenior at September 5, 2019 4:16 AM MDT

When the family member died 70yrs ago or even just 10yrs ago, yes I might tell them. Congratulations. What a great family they have and how happy I am to know them.

Maybe that was what people did 70 years ago, but I have been to many funerals and no one - NO ONE - has ever congratulated the family.  That is not an appropriate thing to say at a funeral.

They were not at a funeral. I did not say at a funeral.
    The "funeral" was 80yrs ago.

He was giving them a compliment. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't know what people did 80 years ago - I wasn't born yet.  You have wandered into a realm that I cannot fathom and it's impossible for me to continue this ridiculous discussion.

This question brought back memories of a book I read, back in high school.
I can't remember the book, unfortunately ... but it was written by a Polish soldier who had fought the NAZI invasion of his country.
He was describing the Polish forces using WWI equipment to attempt to fight the German blitzkrieg.
Needless to say, it was a massacre of the Polish military.  But he survived and went on to fight with the resistance forces.

Sorry ... not really on topic, but that's what I was reminded of.

Let's summarize the best opinion on this issue.  It's from USA today and titled:

Trump has a history of historical ignorance. Sometimes, that ignorance results in an international embarrassment.
