Yes one can literally die of fright. It's not very likely, but it can happen. The surge of adrenaline that comes with fright, can be enough to kill a person. One can die of loneliness, and one can die of a "broken heart". Yes, they simply "give up". We have seen many examples of when a person believes they have nothing to live for, their body simply stops working ... and they die. For example, when a person's mate of many years dies, the likely hood of the other mate dying within a year is very high.
So the mind is very powerful and affects the body in extreme ways. I've never been there. Despair must be very scary. Thank you for your thoughtful and very informative reply Shuhak. I'm an upbeat positive hopeful person. I take after my dad as does my younger sister. We are optimists. Tomorrow will be a better day. We make it a point to be appreciative of and grateful what we do have EVERY DAY. I do think my positive determined mind brought be through cancer in 2008 that should have or was expected to kill me. I dunno. But looking on the bright side can't possibly hurt. Jim and I were in a terrible auto accident in 2004 that should have killed us but didn't. So we've experienced a couple of miracles ::)
