Are you sentimental with regard to gifts given to you by loved ones?

The oldest piece of clothing I still wear (only in the house) is a sweatshirt my son bought for me when he graduated from Cal Berkeley. 1987! No joke. It's quite faded and there are a few holes in the sleeves but it is not remotely indecent. I can open the door to anyone and not be embarrassed. I will never get rid of it. If it gets shredded for some reason and I can no longer wear it I'll put whatever is left of in a drawer. TRUE CONFESSIONS.

YEs.  Tossing a gift from a loved one is like tossing out a part of them.

I couldn't. A candy dish my son gave me when he was five(he will be 54 on his next birthday) broke in two about 20 years ago. I was heartbroken and tried to scotch tape it together. Jim rescued me. He got some glue that seems to be invisible and when he put it back together I couldn't tell it had broken. I use it every day as the place I put the necklace, rings and watch I wear when we go out. It is an orange swan whose back is where you would put the candy. I'm not a fan of orange but I LOVE the candy dish for obvious reasons. I'm still wearing a UC Berkley sweatshirt he bought for me when he graduated in 1987. It's faded and a bit torn on the sleeves but perfectly respectable to wear in the house. Nothing indecent about it at all. It's just kinda old. I'll never throw it away. So you understand. Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :) This post was edited by RosieG at September 23, 2019 11:10 AM MDT

I can be, yes. Though I admit my main one is not something you might normally think of as having sentimental value!

It's a small lathe, for making parts for models, and it was my 18th birthday present from my parents. It's had a rather hard life, and is badly worn in places so I have not used it for some years (I have larger machines, in better condition); but I intend one day to overhaul it and return it to service.

It was not new when given to me. Dad had bought it from a work colleague. At a guess, it's now some 60 to 80 years old, so probably a few years older than me!
