Discussion»Questions»Religion and Spirituality» Did the Old Testament Believers have the opportunity at eternal life even before the Kingdom of God had come? Or did they just perish.?
They very likely did believe in some form of spiritual after-life, even before they developed what became Judaism and Christianity.
It is one of the common themes of most religions known, extant or extinct; and very likely of ones long-lost for millennia before Moses et al. It lessens the fear of death, and comforts the bereaved.
Archaeological evidence suggests definite funerary rites and possible after-life promises, in cultures far older than the Hebrews', though obviously we cannot know what those far-ancient people actually believed.
