I saw "BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE" for the first time yesterday. The main question remains. Why do Americans kill each other so often?

Other countries' citizens have access to guns rifles etcetera but they don't KILL ONE ANOTHER at the drop of a hat as Americans do. Why? Anyone have any ideas?

Here in America you get angry you shoot someone. We don't have a lock on mental illness. Why do we have a lock on murdering one another?

Here in America people are terrified of one another. There is potential death awaiting them around every corner. So they arm themselves to protect themselves against certain death. How does that make any sense?

Why are AMERICANS so afraid of everything and everyone all of the time? Scairdy cats. Why are they being raised to see having/owning guns as the only way to be safe? Inculcating fear of "the other" is done by parents to their kids and so they grow up fearful. They respond to anyone who sez he/she will protect them from "the other". Fear terror anxiety spooks them every moment of their lives. Really pathetic but there it is.Many millions of Americans are scairdy cats and don't mind the world knowing it. They obsess over building a wall owning a gun and lust after it. Other people in other countries look down on us and well they should. Do you look down on us or down on everyone who isn't like you? I dunno. It ain't gitting any better.

I don't know, but---like Mark Twain---I have either read or anticipated reading a few obituaries.

I hadn't heard that one tom. I kinda like it. For me so far there is ONLY ONE obit to which I look forward reading. You know to whom I refer. I can safely say I am not alone in this. SIGH. Sometimes what is shouldn't be but "The Moving Finger writes, and having writ,
Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears was out a Word of it." More's the pity! Thank you for your reply tom! :)

Actually, I though I was quoting one phrase from Twain and adding the anticipation factor.

Then, I just went online to find Twain's exact quote and found this:

Just one problem: Twain never said it. In fact, no one ever said it in precisely that form. Matt Blum at Wired has the fact-check: the quotation actually comes from Clarence Darrow, the lawyer of Scopes Trial fame. Here's a fuller version of the quote, which appears in Darrow's 1932 work The Story of My Life:

All men have an emotion to kill; when they strongly dislike some one they involuntarily wish he was dead. I have never killed any one, but I have read some obituary notices with great satisfaction.

I have found that to be true for me too. Much more often than I'd like. But it's a good thing to check yourself from time to time. Recalibrate. Thank you for the info and the link. I  like the slightly adjusted version too. A HOLE/WHOLE LOT! Did you see the movie based on that case? VERY EXCELLENTLY AWESOME! Spencer Tracy and I cannot think of the name of his opposing counsel. The bible thumping guy. Spencer Tracy usually played the role of the one who beat the crap out of his opponent. I cannot recall a role he ever played where he was the weak guy, the loser. Thank you for your reply tom! :)
