Criminals have been re-elected while in prison. Animals have been elected as a joke I suppose. Have any DEAD people been elected yet?

Is every "requirement" for public office NEGOTIABLE? Anything strictly adhered to everywhere all the time? What?

Yes. My state elected a dead man to the Senate. Mel Carnahan died during the election but to soon to replace. But it was known that the deceased wife (Jean Carnahan) would be appointed in his place if he won.

There have been at least 3 deceased people elected to the House.

Condolences m2c. I was being flip. I didn't mean to be disrespectful. There is some conversation about Elijah Cummungs' widow possibly running for his seat in Congress. I think a few other wives have done so as well. What happens when you  vote for and elect a dead man/woman who wins? Is it a posthumous honor that people knowingly vote to give? Now if the election occurs and votes are in and the person dies during that I can understand how that could happen. Thank you for your informative reply! I appreciate learning this! :)

    No worries.

They treat it as if the person died in office.

Oh. So then do they have a SPECIAL ELECTION to fill the seat or is it just left empty until the next election? Thank you for the info m2c.
