Ever invite folks to a party and only one person showed up? How did that make you feel?

Good point. Once upon a time many decades ago I invited everyone from work to come over for a party. It was a small group...about 12  including my boss so that would have been 24 at most. It happened to be New Year's Eve. They all accepted and you know who showed up? My boss and his wife. That was it! I had made so much food and I was so embarrassed but they were so gracious and classy about it. They arrived about 8 pm and left about 11:30pm because they wanted to be at home with their kids at midnight. A ritual for them. A yearly tradition which I thought was pretty wonderful. I will always remember their gracious kindness and always remember the hurt I felt. It was hard to go back to work. Some folks said nothing..a couple came up with excuses. It taught me  to never assume anything and never count on anyone at any time for anything. If folks come through as they say they will then how nifty is that? If they don't? So what? Life goes on. My confession. Don't tell a soul. It isn't something that anyone wants others to know. :(
