What kind of America do YOU want? The one we used to have that followed the rule of law and the Constitution with checks and balances:?

Or one that abandons ridicules ignores all of that and is controlled entirely by a single man and his erratic tumbleweed whims? Above the law because he is the law?

Serious question. Never thought I'd ever in my entire life have to ask it of fellow Americans. But here we are today and the question is valid. Whether you will answer it honestly or not is not my problem. I had to ask. You do whatever you need to do. I'm good with my conscience. I expect you are good with yours too. No matter what you have to do to it to make it so.

IF IF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN CHARGE OF THE CHECKS AND BALANCES ARE CROOKS?  WHAT GOOD IS ANY LAW?  WE HAVE CHECKS AND BALANCES.  NOW.  TRUMP DOES NOT FOLLOW THEM AND THE INSANE CONGRESS IS NOT CHECKING BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL UNBALANCED.  THEY ARE INSANE AND TRUMP HAS EXPOSED THIS INSANITY.  THAT IS ONE WAY TO DRAIN THE SWAMP, EH?

    The system is pigged

JUST BE THE MOST INSANE AND GREEDY AND CORRUPT OF ALL AND DICTATE HOW TO PROCEED.  GO DONALD.  I MEAN REALLY GO.  GET OUT AND GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL.  DO NOT PASS GO.

I have to say I don't want either ... past or present.
    I want a better-than-both future.

I'm not a big fan of the "rule of law" - as the law is often used to maintain injustice.
EG: Slavery, women as chattel, discrimination, "reverse" discrimination, etc, etc

But neither am I a big fan of ignoring the law just because one has the power to do so.

So, I guess I want an America where the law is first judged to see if it's just and fair ... then we judge whether the person violated the law.

Change the laws that are unfair but in the meantime don't break 'em Walt. Vote people out whose views and actions are not honorable fair just. When was the last time there was a Constitutional Amendment? The pols take oaths and the good ones keep true to those oaths while it seems to me the majority are all corruptible and potential criminals. Why such rotters are attracted to politics I can only surmise. SIGH. You addressed the rule of law part of my question. What about the Constitution? What is your feeling about THREE EQUAL BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT to provide checks and balances? The dementia don does everything outside it and his toady sycophants support whatever he chooses to do/say. Do you? Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday to thy! :) This post was edited by RosieG at November 14, 2019 1:11 AM MST

The Federal Government has been "interpreting" the Constitution to fit their needs since almost the very beginning.
People favor the government ignoring the Constitution, when it suits their wishes - and cry "fowl" when it goes against them.
The majority of federal agencies/programs are unConstitutional - but the vast majority of Americans are okay with that.

The Constitutional "checks and balances" only work when people wish them to.
Part of the reason America was NEVER supposed to have a large, permanent Army was to prevent the lopsided power struggle we've had since the end of WW2.

Red Flag alert Walt. You KNEW I was going to ask you for specifics. Here goes. WHAT "MAJORITY OF FEDERAL AGENCIES/PROGRAMS ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL?" What makes you think so? Thank you for your reply! :)

10th Amendment: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

    Education department - nope
    Social Security - nope
    Welfare - nope
    National Parks/Forests - nope
Bureau of Land Management - nope
    Health department - nope

    And on, and on

I could even debate that the FBI and Marshall offices are unConstitutional, as enforcing laws on federal property was a matter for the military.
