So we wipe out student loan debt. Fine and dandy. What do we do for the kids who can't afford the time to attend college?

The reason why is because they have to work and earn money to help support their families. Many of them get jobs right out of high school.

So those with student loan debts are really privileged in a way that the kids who are working aren't.

What do we do for THEM? Anyone see a problem here?

There are consequences to all our actions. Starting a family early has consequences. Your time is limited. Your resourses are already spoken for. I know this personally. My first child was born when I was 19.

What do you propose? We pay for the college and pay them to attend?

    Not everyone should attend college.

Some nations recognize this, and have apprenticeship programs in jr/high school.

Few people entering "trades" (plumbing, electrician, carpenter, etc) need college classes.

In fact, I remember when the local union halls would "draft" kids from the high school "shop" classes, and bring them into jobs as apprentices.

Then, the schools did away with those classes - because after-school sports were a higher funding priority.

Thankfully, some schools have recognized that error - and are cutting sports to fund education that will actually help students get jobs after graduation.

Other schools are cooperating with local employers / unions, to offer apprenticeship programs.

I agree with you Walt. What will we provide for THEM that is comparable to wiping out student loan debt for those who do choose to attend college? Fair is fair and I'm just asking for parity here. Thank you for your reply! :)

I would propose that any juvenile above the age of 10 ... sentenced for ANY crime, no matter how "minor" ... serve an apprenticeship program as their "community service".  If the crime involved vandalism, their apprenticeship would include repairing the damage.

Interesting....I never heard of that type of program. It certainly would help.

For the longest time, I thought it was something every union hall did ... then I found out not.
The local union halls did it because the local mills had a constant need for "trade" workers - which meant more revenue for the union, in the form of dues.
