Any brain/mind cognoscenti out there somewhere? How do you KNOW you are an honest person if you can only access your conscious?

Being honest has to do with INTENT.

If one sincerely believes he is honest, then he is honest.  He may be an honest fool, but he is being true to himself. It doesn't take a giant brain to understand this concept.

People have committed horrid mistakes; but they were honest in their belief that they were doing the right thing.   Doctors have killed patients on the operating table thinking they were saving a life, and that decision may have cost the patient his life.  That does not negate the fact that he was honestly trying his best to save the patient.   This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at December 5, 2019 4:19 AM MST

    The unconscious is honest.
Being the opposite of the ego and superego - it has no ethics and therefore no need to change or edit.
It stores what the conscious mind finds too scary or too painful to remember.

It also stores an enormous amount of trivia that is not currently needed in working memory.
Most of it is accessed via associative triggers.

From your other recent questions - I'm guessing you are concerned about "false memory syndrome" as has been discovered when some psychotherapists assist clients to recover memories of past abuse via hypnosis.
In these instances, the process of hypnosis was not authentic. The therapist used the hypnotic state to suggest ideas to the client.
False hypnosis has been used in some law cases where there was something to gain. Unfortunately, it seems that if the lawyers hunt hard enough, they can find a psychologist willing to abuse the hypnotic technique. And that certainly is scary and abhorrent.

Correct hypnosis makes no suggestions whatsoever. It leaves the client free to observe what comes up naturally. It works by creating a profound sense of relaxation and safety. The memories can resurface without causing the same levels of pain and distress as at the original time of imprinting.

You're right. I am very afraid of that. Years ago in California there was a pre-school..McMartin was the name of it a I recall. Stories were coming on of sexual abuse and witchcraft and all kinds of disgusting things. There was a trial. The reputations of all the teachers were trashed and it seems they were all witches delving in the occult and sexually abusing the little kids. As it turns out none of that was true. None of it. But the fury and frenzy and scandal it caused still haunts me. It is happening in politics now more than ever. The "deep state" bullsh** will not go away. Millions of people subscribe to it and refuse to disbelieve it because a wackadoodle diptick tells them it is true. Thank you for your reply bw. .
