We all place value on different things. What we think stuff is worth. What we're willing to pay. What we can afford. Are you rich?

Are you in debt up to your eyeballs because you keep maxing out your credit card to buy stuff, expensive stuff, name brand important stuff? Or do you stay within budget and adjust your wants to fit within it?

Do you buy what you can get by with or do you forego it entirely if it isn't "the best"?

Are there some things you have no problem "settling for" or do you never "settle for" less than the best?

Some folks aren't that interested in nutrition or diet so they "settle for" things others wouldn't eatingwise.

What is your "WANT" or "MUST HAVE"? If price were of no consequence what would you go out and buy right now?

For Jim and me it would be a condo at the beach. Our dream is to walk on the beach drinking our coffee every morning. As the sun goes down toast it with a glass of wine from our balcony.Fall asleep each night to the sound of the ocean waves outside our window.

What's your dream?

I more than live within my means.  I have no debt other than what I charge monthly and pay in full when the bill comes due.  No mortgage, no car payments, no credit card balances.  I'm a person of simple needs.  I have most of what I want and everything I need.  Don't need designer anything as I'm not out to impress anyone.  I'm one of the lucky few who can live on their Social Security alone if it came to that.  I didn't apply for Social Security until I was 70, so the additional percentage made a big difference in what I received each month.

I'm exceedingly happy with what you've done finance-wise my friend. You deserve all the best of everything and I'm pleased as far as financial worries yours are minimal. That is a big comfort. What some of us worry about is outliving our retirement income if we have any at all. We're like you. No mortgage no car payments no credit card balances. Our needs are simple too. But we do worry with dingbat don in charge what he will do to all benefits like social security, Medicare. We know he wants to totally eliminate the AHCA. I don't know how that would affect Jim and Me. We have Medicare and Kaiser is our supplemental insurance. If that supplemental is affected by the AHCA I'm not sure how it would impact us. If dingbat don steals all the money from social security and Medicare to build his wall, buy a country, send all his a**kissers on trips around the world it would be devastating for us. We're not alone. The guy is rotten and evil so he is capable of doing much worse than he has and if he gets the chance he will. SIGH. Thank you for your thoughtful reply L! :) This post was edited by RosieG at December 9, 2019 9:10 AM MST

I understand your concerns, Rosie.  Right now, I don't have any supplemental insurance - by choice.  I know that by waiting to buy it, I'll be charged a penalty, but I am pretty healthy and any medical bills I pay for now don't come anywhere near the premiums I would pay for it.  That could change, in which event, I'll see what's around at that point and make a decision.

Compared to people in poverty I am.  Compared to rich people, I'm in poverty.
