I'm not quite sure what a nervous breakdown is but one must lose touch with reality. Once "cured" does it change you? Could it happen again?

One cannot be "cured" from a mental breakdown.  They can be helped through it.  Yes, they change a person - for life, and yes, they can happen again.
It's hard to describe what a breakdown is.  Some call them burnouts.  They're usually caused by stress.  My aunt had one many years ago, and she was never the same person again.  She was a devoted christian, had a loving husband, children, family nearby ... but one day she just went "berserk".  Of course they immediately medicated her heavily (total space case), but even after that she was never the same.

Condolences to you Shuhak. Once upon a time very long ago my folks knew a very loving couple. Until one day husband went after wife with a knife and almost killed her. I don't know what happened after then. I think the don of johns had a nervous breakdown long ago and what we see today is due to that. He is not "all there". Thank you for your helpful repy! :)

I don't know if he had a breakdown or not.  However, I can see that he's not all there.  Could Be age, could be bad health.
