For those "of a certain age" our yesterday was PURE BLISS. How did we achieve this?

Do you remember back in the day MGM musicals? If you're not a fan then you wouldn't understand.

I recorded
THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT
THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT 2
THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT 3
THAT'S DANCING

And for hours and hours we left the HE** of today and dwelled in yesterday.

Fred Astaine, Gene Kelly, and more stars than are in the heavens. Musicals galore from one end to the other. Musical scores that were sensational. There was no anything from today back then and so we got a respite from the VILE reality that we live.

Now some of you may thinks we're cowards and wimps for running away. Think whatever you will. WE HAD FUN! What do YOU DO for fun these days that takes YOU away from the vile HE** of reality in D.C. or in the world? Anything suitable for sharing or too risque?

Everyone needs a break from reality.  To "turn off" and "tune out".  Some place they can go to find "normality".  For some, this "intermission" is movies, for others music.  Some find it in nature (fishing, hiking, and such).  Many find it in things of the past.  Back in a time where they felt at peace.

Personally, I "get away" by watching movies like 'Airplane!', and 'Blazing Saddles'. I can't stay in the past for too long, however, or my depression will overtake me.  I also take a break from reality via my stories; either by reading or writing them (no depression there).

The thing I most fear is losing memories. They define me and without them who am I? I can replay Gene Kelly dancing with cartoon characters or Judy Garland skipping down that yellow brick road or Jimmy Cagney in Yankee Doodle Dandy or a bazillion other joyful things in my mind's eye. When memory goes what's left but a blank sheet on which nothing is written?. I love being out in nature but I'm not a good camper. I want a hot shower and a clean bed in which to sleep at night. We have an acquaintance who often goes backpacking with friends for days on end. I'm happy for those who have such pleasures in their lives and wonder how those who don't survive? Thank you for your thoughtful reply! : This post was edited by RosieG at January 5, 2020 9:46 AM MST

I'm not so keen on camping either.  I hate not being able to take a shower.  However, I love being in the woods.

I fear losing my memories as well.  Unfortunately, there's alzheimer's as well as dementia in my family line.

    THAT'S AN OPINION.

Was your past really pure bliss?

Ca va sans dire. Of course. Of course. Of course. SO IS YOURS. As I recall it yes. A few thorns do not make me miserable where there were so many roses. A broken nail or bad hair day affects me not at all. Did I answer your question?

Everything you say is YOUR OPINION. Not mine or his or her but yours.
