In my friendships the most important trait a friend should have is Loyalty. Not much else is as important to me as loyalty.
This does Not mean they need to agree with me. This just means that respect should be given by anybody who is a friend. Loyalty and trust are the only two things I ask of my friends.

Loyalty is huge and it's not something that I would give out blindly. I make no apology for that.
I am drawn to people that have strong personal character which would include loyalty, honesty, true kindness, and healthy self esteem.
I've been burned by friends who wouldn't know loyalty if it slapped them in the face. If someone comes to me with second hand news (gossip) I just don't want to hear it.
If they are gossipping about someone else, whose to say they are not talking about me also.
So true. I never understood anyone being "loyal" to someone that can't say a nice thing about anyone. They are deluded to think it won't happen to them.
I always was leery of guys that talked badly of an ex on the first date. You can learn about how someone is going to treat you if you really listen to how they view others.
