Do we ever outgrow our vulnerability to being influenced by others? How old do we have to be to escape it?

No.  Peer pressure is something we never outgrow (even if we're the last of our peers).  Humans are social creatures.  They want to "fit in".  (generally speaking).  It's much easier to do something if others are doing it as well.  (ie. fads).  Of course, as we age we (hopefully) gain wisdom and realize that mom was right - just because everyone else wants to jump off a cliff doesn't mean we have to jump with them.

When I was younger I so desperately wanted to "fit in". Being painfully shy made that an impossible dream. I'd see the "popular" kids and wish I were one of them. But as I've aged I'm very happy to be me. Being popular isn't without its downside. Outgrowing the desire/need for approbation from others is very freeing. You can be true to yourself and not have to pretend to be what/whom you aren't. Some people will find that appealing. Others won't. It matters not although I must say that finding others like me along the way has been supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Thank you for your reply Shuhak and Happy Wednesday. I know I do not have to name names.
