  • Fear is keeping you from doing something that by your own admission you are already able to do, swim.  So, jump in.  The water's fine.  Let go of fear and have faith.  Embrace the freedom.

    I think you should learn how to swim first before going in deep water with or without a vest.  The vest will help you overcome some of the fear.  But learn to swim.

    I understand, so either use a vest if you want to be in the deep end or just swim where you know you can touch the bottom if you get tired.

    If you are a strong swimmer, a vest is not neccessary unless you need it to feel comfortable. Or perhaps if you are going to be in deep water for a significant amount of time in case you get tired.

  • I'm sure there are a number of different types of vests on the market. Look for one that is certified by the manufacturer as a reliable flotation device and get one that's a comfortable fit. I don't know what regulations are in force in your state for water safety, but here in Georgia, you can't go boating without vests. So, enjoy but be careful at all times.

    A vest is always a good idea, if you are on any type of marine vessel.
    It doesn't matter how good a swimmer you are.
    The cold will sap your strength faster than you expect.
