"They boldly go where no one dares to go". Where is that for you? Where would YOU never dare to go? Why?

For me it would be an opium den or a drug-addicts hangout. A brothel or bullfight or FIGHT CLUB. A political rally. A political convention. A gun show. A safari. A locked room filled with snakes all writhing all poisonous. A girl's night out. Shopping with anyone for anything at any time. A slaughter house. A puppy mill. An execution hanging lynching. A gin joint filled with drunks. An ancient roman entertainment of lions eating Christians or slaves fighting to the death. Any battlefront during a war. Watching a firing squad do its job. Being forced to listen to every word of a speech made by someone I cannot stand. Being in the company of unfriendly people. Black Friday out and about anywhere. The site of any massacre especially of children.

That's a dam* long list and if I were to give more time to it it would be longer. Is your list of "dare nots" as long or longer?

Detroit? I believe you just slapped my face with a glove. Threw the gauntlet down. I guess I shall be obliged to defend and thus therefore to whit to retaliate and add TOLEDO to my list. Now doesn't that feel a whole lot better? Thanks and Happy Saturday. This post was edited by RosieG at February 1, 2020 9:28 AM MST

Have you been to Detroit recently? Toledo is third after Detroit and Cleveland.

I don't know if I have any particular "dare not go" places in the world.

There are myriad places I have no wish to go because they are disgusting, dangerous, or otherwise of no interest to me. But under sufficient incentive, I'd probably be willing to go just about anywhere.

Can you give an example of "sufficient" incentive SP? To save a life? Thank you for your reply and Happy almost Saturday to thee! :)

Let's take one of your examples: a gun show.

I currently don't have enough interest in firearms to attend such an event. But suppose a good friend of mine wanted to go and promised to explain the various things being displayed, and then buy me lunch afterward. I think under that circumstance, I would attend and try to make the best of it.

Or, let's suppose I am doing academic research and part of the question I'm investigating are the attitudes of people who attend gun shows. Again, if I believed I could go to such an event and gather important data for my research, I'd go.

In your question, you mentioned a variety of places and events with varying degrees of disincentive. Naturally, the level of incentive required to get me to go to such places or events would also vary (e.g. I'm only going into a snake-filled cave to rescue someone from potential injury/death).

I add curry powder, cumin and chili powder to some dishes likes soups and chili D. The aroma is mostly cuminy. A short anecdote kinda relevant. When my son lived in northern California decades ago I'd drive up from Los Angeles and visit for a week or so. He and his best friend (remember OLD SCHOOL?) took me out to dinner the first night. An INDIAN restaurant! The only thing I could eat was the Naan. There was some spices(s) that I really didn't like and they felt terrible about it. No one's fault. I do not remember what the restaurant smelled like though. It was the taste I found very unappealing. Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday. :)

To me it looks like rancid sloop Rosie........ The smell in you home if you cook it get in the fabric of you whole home ,more so the carpet ,curtains and whatever's in your wardrobe or bed and ever in your armchairs...
My dad had an employee who eat it every day......no one would get in the van with him as his body stunk so much as he perspires
God only know why so many people eat it...just standing next to someone on public transport  who has is enough to make me gag

Really D? I guess it depends on how much curry you use and how often you use it. Like those who smoke cigarettes have a stench about them that is stomach-churning. They don't smell it obviously but non-smokers can smell them coming and still smell them after they've left. I wonder what else makes people stink besides body odor? Thank you for your reply D. Vomit stinks and lots of drunks smell of vomit if they are always upchucking. Poop smells so little babies smell of it until they are old enough to be potty trained. Garlic smells but many people like it. Some cannot abide it. For me personally perfume is intolerable. You hug a perfumed or after shave lotioned someone and you stink until you can change clothes and take a shower. I find that infinitely offensive and nauseating to the max. Different strokes etcetera and so forth! I don't like to smell people coming or going. SIGH. This post was edited by RosieG at February 1, 2020 9:35 AM MST

I can't say I'm a fan of any perfume Rosue to...that to lingers on your cloths and body and takes in a different aroma if it's left on to long....it worries me what they put in it to...
I was in my dads lorry once and driving across London from east to west parallel to Oxford Street ,the main shopping road where  the huge department stores all are...
The were driving a tiny Suzuki  open top jeep with the top down in the summer..,even though for much of the time they were completely out of sight, I still knew I was behing them....they must have worn a whole bottle of the same perfume each.....I could smell and taste it in my mouth for maybe up to three miles , I'd turn a corner and they would still be there ...I don't think I will ever forget it....lol

Condolences to you m'dear! So you know exactly what I mean. The stench is intolerable but they all think they smell divine. I wonder why no one tells them they stink? Thank you for your reply D! :)
