    That depends upon how much you value the lives spared/injuries not suffered because passenger vehicles are equipped with airbags.

    On the whole, I think they've been a net positive, although there is an argument to be made that the increment of additional safety airbags provide over seat belts is not worth the expense (and unintended consequences).

    Children and slender adults are most at risk. Larger well-padded folks aren't as much. Frankly the airbag has always scared me. I'm not tiny but I'm slender and old and cracked ribs or a punctured lung is not something to which I would look forward. I look at it as a sword of Damocles ready to drop at any time. Strangely the air bags did not deploy when we had that infamous very bad accident Friday, August 13, 2004. Do airbags deploy only under certain specific circumstances? Mahalo for your reply OS!  :)
