Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» What does the DNC have against Bernie? They allegedly screwed him in 2016 to benefit Hillary which was for naught. Wassup with THAT?
In the main, the DNC represents the moderate-corporatist wing of the Democratic party. Its membership consists mostly of highly-educated urban technocrats who are comfortable with corporate power, neoliberal economic policies, and a fairly interventionist foreign policy.
Bernie Sanders does NOT represent the views of such people.
With respect to 2016 in particular, it is my understanding the DNC had little choice, because it was broke (Apparently, President Obama and his supporters mismanaged DNC finances during his term). In 2016, the DNC was utterly dependent upon HRC for money to run its operations (HRC had raised a substantial campaign fund). Under such circumstances, you can hardly expect the DNC to strongly support anyone BUT their primary source of money.
Have you noticed SP that there are always bottom lines and mostly two keep showing up all the time? "It's complicated" and "Follow the money". I cahn't stend it! The "it's complicated" one is fine and good and true because lots of things ARE COMPLICATED. That can't be changed. But the money thing? Geez that is so disappointing. Back to square one where people are greedy SOB's and nothing matters but survival and money buys time I guess. So Hillary was a great fundraiser for the DNC and Bernie is great at raising funds for himself but not so much for others? Everyone has a price. Some of us cost a lot more and others can be bought on the cheap but bottom line "follow the money". Thank you for your reply. I did not know what that was all about but I guess I shouldda guessed. Happy Sunday to thee SP! :)
Salty Pebble's explanation seems reasonable enough. I wonder if that is still the explanation and, if so, would Bloomberg's millions be going into the DNC coffers or is it just being used for his own benefit since he isn't taking any public funds? What Bloomberg has said was that, even if he is not the presidential candidate, he will use his money to get any other Democrat running for any office elected. That would be a huge amount of funds into the DNC coffers.
Honestly, I think the focus of the DNC should be to back the candidate they think can win against Trump. A poll out this morning (can't recall whose it is) indicates that any of the major Democratic hopefuls could win against Trump. I'm not sure I believe that. They said Hillary would win, too.
