Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Is it body art/decoration or disfigurement/desecration? Tattoos/ metal piercings are "value added" or do they damage the merchandise?
If you saw some of those tattoos under bridges or on the outside of buildings I think you'd think they were quite beautiful Shuhak! Of course a wall or canvas is not the same thing as one's skin. Lots of graffiti in lots of places and some of it is astonishing in a good way. Depends on where you see it. The most beautiful delicate earrings are found on earrings for PIERCED EARS. I have no idea why but there you have it. I've loved how beautiful they are but not enough to poke holes in my ears. I think it represents a certain culture and might have a tinge of defiance associated with it though I don't know for sure. It calls attention to you so a shy person would not want to do that. Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)

Pierced ears are ok. But noses? Cheeks? Lips? Tongues? (as well as unmentionable places)?? Egads! One might think tattoos look nice whet their young, but that"canvas" stretches. A cute butterfly tramp stamp at 21 turns into a fire breathing dragon by 50.
Both of my nephews are covered with tats. The older even has prison tats, although all his are B/W. The younger nephew has some colored tats (which he says were extremely painful to get adn then to endure numerous sessions to slowly color in), and some that havent been colored in as he cant afford it yet. He also has 3" saucers in his ears and mid-back length dreadlocks.
You make a distinction between ears and other body parts Shuhak. I do not. I see no difference at all in poking holes in your ears or your nose or your cheeks or your lips or your tongue or your belly button or wherever else people groove on putting metal where it doesn't belong. Have your nephews talked to you about WHY they were compelled to disfigure their bodies? Are they attention-seekers? I mean when I see someone walking toward me covered with tats I can't not notice them and I expect that's the point. They WANT to be noticed not ignored so they go to great lengths and endure pain to achieve that. There are folks whose hair color changes from purple to orange to a rainbow. I think it is very clownish but I expect they think it is quite beautiful. You can't NOT notice them. Of course I am at the other end of that spectrum wishing to be invisible and not causing attention. So what do I know? Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)
