I take no credit for it. It was just another serendipitous thing. I was looking up another word and I saw GO and that there were 98 listings under that tiny itsy bitsy word. I thought it ought to be shared. Did you check it out? Isn't it astonishing? I don't really calculate things m'dear. They just fall in my lap by whatever means and so I share them. I actually take no credit for the questions I ask either because something is always at work inside my brain that mystifies me. Why can't I stop questioning things? Will I ever stop asking questions? Why so many all the time? Is it a defect or an asset? Anyway GO check out GO. Now if you have an abridged dictionary perhaps there won't be 98 listings. I love the dictionary. It is endlessly fascinating and always educational! Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)

Good grief! I keep a Thorndike dictionary beside my computer (California State Series, circa my middle school years). It lists 23 definitions for 'go', 25 usages, and 8 sub-usages. I use a Webster's dictionary to do the New York Times crossword puzzles. It has 84 definitions - plus 1 more for the game 'Go' (something the Thorndike failed to mention).
To the right of our TV chair on a wooden TV tray is our dictionary always open. We used to put it away then bring it out look up whatever close the book put it back pull it out open it up look up a word for years. Finally the light dawned! Jim goes to it all the time too. It is always open always accessible always available. We don't lift it at all. It's a pretty heavy book. I did not segregate the 98 as you have. I did not differentiate between definition, usages and subs. You do the NYT crossword puzzle? I shouldda known. That's above my paygrade m'dear. I've tried and it just frustrates the he** outta me so I put it away as something not meant to be for me. I salute you! Honestly I do. I used to work with a gal who did it IN INK! You probably do too. That takes guts! Thank you for your reply Shuhak. The "Good grief" pertained to what part of my reply specifically? The fact that I am held hostage by my curiosity and can't stop?

The"good grief" was my response upon seeing the page of definitions in my dictionary. (would 'holy cow' have been more appropriate?)
Ink? Not hardly. The NYT puzzle is easy on monday and gets progressively harder. I can do a Monday with no problem, tuesdays and wednesdays I can get most if not all done. Thursday I can get about 1/2 (although there have been times when I have got them all) Friday is 1/4 to 1/2 But on Saturday... I'm lucky if I can get one answer ... correct or not. It's their "outside the box thinking" that makes them so hard. Sometimes one has to be literal. For example - The question - 'It starts Hallelujah'. The answer - 'HALL' or "HAL" depending on how many squares there are in the answer. I absolutely cannot do any of the puzzles that have more than one letter in a square.
BTW - check out the number of definitions for the word "turn".ggh
