When you were a child did you ever have a hissy fit TANTRUM? Do you remember why if you did?

Do hissy fit tantrum-prone children become hissy fit tantrum-prone adults?

Once only. I went to school my first two years in FL. When I returned to Ohio, the school wanted to put me back into 2nd grade. I already excelled way beyond third grade so that required some major hissying. I was so annoying, they called mom, who brought my school records from FL and they put me in 3rd.

Why would they want to hold you back? That makes NO SENSE AT ALL. Thank you for your reply E and Happy Tuesday to thee! Usually intelligent educators want kids to be at whatever level they need to be to keep them interested in learning. Sheesh! :)

I believe they wanted to hold me back because FL had a very poor school system. As far as your second point...if that were true, I, and a number of my friends would have been accelerated a grade or two. They didn't really care.

That what they did in my time. I skipped several grades in grammar school. The downside was I was younger than the other kids and socially very shy so my interactions with them was not all that swell. When my son (who will be 54 this month) was in school they had stopped the skipping grades thingy. He was identified as an MGM (mentally gifted minor) so they provided him with after-school classes one of which (would you believe) was computer programming. That was when he was in the 4th grade. He has been a university professor since he received his doctorate in 2004 and his field? Computer and Information Sciences! He was chair of his department for a few years. Now I wonder how that particular after-school class influenced his choice of professions? Coinkydink or something else? Thank you for your reply E and Happy Wednesday to thee! :) This post was edited by RosieG at February 5, 2020 6:56 AM MST

  • Maybe when I was a toddler, but I don't remember.  When I was older, my parents wouldn't have put up with it.
I have a feeling that if hissy fits gets someone what they want as a child, they might just continue.
Or, maybe they just never developed effective communication or coping skills so they lash out like that.
I think Trump has hissy fits because he has so many brown nosers around him ... he gets away with it.
