Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Maybe we're all egotistical at some level or another. Are you about some particular talent/gift you have others don't? WHAT?
I'm not egotistical about it, but it is nice to know that I can play the piano at a high level that many non-musicians around me cannot attain. The attention of them watching me play and being amazed at how quickly my fingers can move and how much control of sound I have is definitely a nice feeling. But I am also aware that no matter how talented you are at something, there will always be people out there who are even better. Also, just because someone does not share your talent does not mean they do not have abilities that would be a challenge for you as well.
I'm not egotistical that way. I don't think I am all that. It is just that I can get really bitter from someone threatening me by criticizing me. My EGO blows up when that happens.
It happens at work a lot. There is something about my paycheck being involved that excites me negatively.
Well we all have opinions likes dislikes Sharon. How does criticism threaten you enough to make you bitter? You have opinions about others which is your right. Two-way street. But there are ways to disagree that are not threatening. Some folks delight in showing up JUST TO ATTACK INSULT. Not my cuppa tea. Others show up to engage in conversation in a calm rational manner. Perhaps they are not exactly critical but simply disagree. That never bothers me. I enjoy hearing others point of view IF AND ONLY IF the views are advanced politely. I say I love broccoli. You don't. Do you demean denigrate insult me because of it? If you did that it would be silly. We all have trigger points. It is what it is. Thank you for your reply.
