The biggest hit for the O'Jays was a US number one and their only Top 10 hit in the UK. Released in December 1972 (hence that year on here) but charted in early 1973.
Great song. I really liked the O'Jays.
They had a handful of hits in the UK as well as in the US. I like "Love Train" the best of theirs and as it happens it was their biggest hit on both sides of the Atlantic (US #1, UK #9). Their other transatlantic chart singles were "Backstabbers" (US #3, UK #14), "I Love Music" (US #5, UK #13), "Darlin' Darlin' Baby" (US #72, UK #24), "Use Ta Be My Girl" (US #4, UK #12) and "Brandy" (US #79, UK #21). Their last UK Top 40 entry, "Sing A Happy Song" (#39 in UK) narrowly missed the US Hot 100. Meanwhile, in between "Darlin' Darlin' Baby" and "Use Ta Be My Girl", the single "I Love Music" re-entered the UK Top 40 at #36. Despite all these charting singles, none of the group's albums put in an appearance in the UK charts. They were also part of the Philadelphia International All-Stars, whose single "Let's Clean Up The Ghetto" reached the UK Top 40 (#34) but stalled at #91 in the US.
